Ryder’s Xchange Security Deposit & Insurance Policy
Effective Date: 13 May 20261. Security Deposit (Bond)
Certain vehicle bookings on Ryder’s Xchange may require a security deposit (“bond”) before the rental begins. The security deposit may be used to cover:- Vehicle damage
- Insurance excess payable after an incident
- Traffic fines, tolls, or infringements
- Late return fees
- Additional usage charges
- Cleaning costs
- Missing accessories, keys, or equipment
- Breaches of the rental agreement or platform policies
- The vehicle type or value
- Rider age or licence class
- Booking duration
- Insurance requirements
- Host requirements
2. Bond Collection Methods
Ryder’s Xchange is currently developing a platform-based bond holding system for hosts and renters. Until this system is fully implemented, some hosts may choose to collect a bond directly from the renter using approved methods such as:- Physical cash bond
- Bank transfer
- Card pre-authorisation
- Third-party payment methods agreed between the host and renter
- The host is responsible for securely managing and returning the bond
- The renter must ensure they receive confirmation or proof of payment
- Ryder’s Xchange may assist in resolving disputes but is not automatically responsible for holding or releasing host-managed bonds
- The required bond amount
- Accepted payment methods
- Conditions for deductions or refunds
- Expected refund processing timeframes
3. Bond Refunds
If no issues are reported following the booking, the bond will generally be released or refunded after the rental period ends. Refund processing times may vary depending on:- The payment method used
- Bank processing times
- Pending damage inspections
- Outstanding fines or toll notices
- Damage claims
- Traffic infringements
- Cleaning or recovery costs
- Booking disputes
- Unpaid rental fees
4. Insurance Coverage
Vehicles listed on Ryder’s Xchange may be covered through:- The host’s private or commercial insurance policy
- A Ryder’s Xchange protection plan (where available)
- The renter’s personal insurance policy
- Third-party insurance providers
5. Insurance Excess
If an insurance claim is made during or after a booking, the renter may be responsible for paying an insurance excess or deductible amount. The excess amount may vary depending on factors including:- Rider age
- Licence type or restrictions
- Vehicle category
- Claim circumstances
- Insurance provider requirements
- Riders under 21 years old — higher insurance excess
- Riders over 21 years old — lower insurance excess
6. Damage Responsibility
Renters are responsible for returning the vehicle in substantially the same condition it was received, excluding reasonable wear and tear. Where damage occurs during a booking, the renter may be liable for:- Repair costs
- Insurance excess amounts
- Loss of income or downtime for the host
- Recovery or towing costs
- Administrative or claim processing fees
7. Personal Property
Ryder’s Xchange and vehicle hosts are not responsible for:- Privacy Policy
- Damage & Accident Policy
- Late Return & Extension Policy
- Delivery Rider Usage Policy
- Vehicle Condition Checklist Policy
- Terms & Conditions
- Host Agreement
- Insurance & Liability Waiver
